APRIL 2008

• Absentee Voting
If going to vote on election day is difficult for you, you may want to use an absentee ballot, which you can vote at home and mail in.  To obtain an application to vote by absentee ballot, e-mail, call or visit our office.  You may vote absentee if you are older than 60, or disabled, or will be out of town on election day, among other reasons.  You may request to be on our permanent AV list; then you will automatically get an AV application prior to every election.

• Important Dates:

July 1-Summer Property Tax Bills mailed

July 7-Last day to register to vote in August primary

July 16-20 Sparta Town & Country Days Fair

Aug 5-Primary Election (all Sparta Township precincts vote at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, 660 S. State St.)

Sept 14-Summer Property Tax Bills Due

Oct 6-Last day to register to vote in November

Nov 4-General Election (all Sparta Township precincts vote at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, 660 S. State St.)

 

APRIL 2008

• A new Historical Museum Building!
Sparta Township is planning and raising funds for a new museum, to be located near the train depot museum at the north end of Union St.   For more information check out the Historical Commission page.

 

MARCH 2008

Spring Clean-Up Days
April 24 - 26, 2008

Thur/Fri  1:00 - 8:00pm  Sat  9:00am - 3:00pm

Drop off behind Village Public Works garage at 276 W. Division St.

Accepted: yard waste, rubbish (including up to 4 tires), metals, propane tanks, batteries and appliances.

Not accepted:  hazardous wastes, commercial wastes, paint, oil, liquids.

This opportunity is for Township/Village residents only.  ID's will be checked at the gate.

Residents are expected to unload on their own. Village/Township personnel will assist as available.  Call us (887-8863) for more information.

 

• Area Agency on Aging
provides many services for older people. Contact them at (616) 456-5664 or www.aaawm.org.  Some of our property taxes go to this organization (Kent County Senior millage).

Sparta Township is honored to be designated a "Preserve America Community"!  This national program recognizes communities that are committed to preserving America's cultural and natural heritage resources, for learning and enjoyment.  Thank you to our Historical Commission for all their work to achieve this honor, which qualifies us for grants and other benefits.  For more information visit www.preserveamerica.gov.
