OCTOBER 2007

• Passport Application Evening
On Thursday, October 25, 2007, the Sparta Township office will be open in the evening to process passport applications.  Joining with the downtown merchants' Moonlight Madness sales, we will be open from 5:00 - 8:00 pm.  If you need a passport, please bring your certified birth certificate, pictures (available at Mombers), driver's license, and 2 checks/money orders (we do not take credit cards).  For more information call 887-8863 or see the passport website www.travel.state.gov.

 

JULY 2007

Free Watermelon!
Township Board members and Village Councilpersons will be serving watermelon in Rogers Park during the Town & Country Fair, Wednesday evening, July 11, at 7:00 pm.  Fair booklets are available in the Township office.

• Election - August 7, 2007
A special election will be held on Tuesday, August 7, to vote on a Grand Rapids Community College millage request.  Absentee ballots are available in the township office.  Sparta Township registered voters may vote at the usual location, Trinity Christian Reformed Church (on Sparta Ave, south of 12 Mile Rd) from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.

 

MAY 2007

Free Household Hazardous Waste Collection
At the North Kent Transfer Station, 2908 Ten Mile Rd (across from Meijers).  Three Saturdays:  June 9, August 4, October 13, from 9 - noon

Recycling drop-off is also available daily at this site.

Summer Office Hours

Beginning May 25 (Memorial Day weekend) the Township office will close at noon on Fridays, for the summer.

Be sure to call early if you need to activate your burning permit for the weekend!

APRIL 2007

Sparta Village and Township - Spring Clean-Up 2007
APRIL 26, 27, AND 28, 2007

Sparta Village & Township will be holding a Spring clean-up for residents on:

Thursday, April 26, 2007 and Friday April 27, 2007 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and on
Saturday, April 28, 2007 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. 

The drop off will be located behind the Village of Sparta Department of Public Works Garage at 276 W. Division. Yard waste, rubbish (including up to 4 tires), metal and appliance will be accepted without charge.  Hazardous wastes, commercial wastes, paint, oil and liquids will not be accepted. 

Residents are expected to unload their own yard waste, rubbish, etc. Village and Township personnel will assist as much a possible. I.D.’s will be checked at the gate.

MARCH 2007

• Board of Review Hearings:
By the end of February, property owners will receive a Notice of Assessment for 2007.  Please review the values; call assessor Cliff Turner (616) 887-8863 on Mondays or Thursdays if you have questions.

If you disagree with the values, you may appear before the Board of Review to present your evidence.  Hearings will be held on Monday, March 12, 9:00 am - 12:00  & 6:00 pm - 9:00 and Tuesday, March 13, 1:00 pm - 4:00 & 6:00 pm - 9:00.  Please call the office (616) 887-8863 to schedule an appointment.
