Sparta Township is located in northern Kent County, Michigan, about 17 minutes north of Grand Rapids and 30 minutes from the Lake Michigan shoreline.
The west half of Sparta Township is on the "Ridge", a prime fruit-growing area, with many acres of beautiful orchards.
At the center is the Village of Sparta, a thriving small town. The Rogue River runs through the east side of the township.
Sparta has a library, museum, airport, diverse industry, fire department, and an excellent school system. Established in 1846, Sparta Township's current population, including the Village, is 9,110 (per the 2010 census).

A special meeting of the Sparta Carnegie Library Board will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 6:00 pm in the Library conference room, 80 N Union St, Sparta MI. (616-887-9937) The purpose of the meeting is to revise the resolution for renewal of library millage to reflect the 2016 Headlee rollback as determined by Kent County Equalization Dept.

It’s that time of the year again: the Village of Sparta and Sparta Township are holding their annual Spring Clean-Up. The drop off site is located behind the DPW garage at 276 W. Division. Yard waste, rubbish (including a maximum of 4 tires), metal and appliances, batteries, propane tanks and electronics will be accepted. Hazardous wastes including paints, oils and other liquids WILL NOT be accepted. Residents are expected to unload their own yard waste, rubbish, etc. Village and Township personnel will assist with unloading as much as possible.
